Dilip J. Karnik, MD

Board-Certified Child Neurologist

Dr. Dilip Karnik received his medical training from Grant Medical College of the University of Bombay, India. He then completed his pediatric residency in the US at Rutgers University / New Jersey Medical School, followed by a fellowship at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and King County Hospital in Brooklyn, where he served as chief resident his last year there.

Dr. Karnik has held a variety of positions both professionally and academically. He was one of the first physicians to practice pediatric neurology in Austin nearly 35 years ago.

Currently, he serves as director of pediatric neurology at the Starbright Rehabilitation Center, a group providing rehab services to brain-injured children. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Austin and medical director of UTAP, the University of Texas Autism Program, dedicated to researching treatment options for those on the autism spectrum.

Dr. Karnik most recently acted as director of pediatric neurology for Pediatric Specialty Services at Dell Children’s Medical Center, a post he held since 2007. Prior to that, he spent ten years as the director of pediatric neurology for ‘Specially for Children at Brackenridge Hospital.

Dr. Karnik is also the founder and chair of the Karnik Institute here in Austin.
