Dilip Karnik, MD
Board-Certified Child Neurologist
Dr. Dilip Karnik received his medical training from Grant Medical College of the University of Bombay, India. He then completed his pediatric residency in the U.S. at Rutgers Medical School, New Jersey, followed by a fellowship at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center and King County Hospital in Brooklyn, where he served as chief resident in his last year.
Dr. Karnik has held a variety of positions both professionally and academically. He was the first physicians to practice pediatric neurology in Austin nearly 40 years ago.
He served as a director of pediatric neurology at the Starbright Rehabilitation Center, founded neuro-rehab services to children with neurological disorders in Austin at Texas Neurorehabilitation Center and at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center. He initiated many programs in central Texas including VNS for epilepsy, rhizotomy, baclofen pump therapy, and Botox for spasticity. He also held a position as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Austin and medical director of UTAP, the University of Texas Autism Program, dedicated to researching treatment options for those on the autism spectrum.
Dr. Karnik most recently acted as director of pediatric neurology for Pediatric Specialty Services at Dell Children’s Medical Center, a post he held since 2007. Prior to that, he spent many years as the director of pediatric neurology for ‘Specially for Children’ at Brackenridge Hospital.
Dr. Karnik is one of the physicians that started the Child Neurology & Consultants of Austin (CNCA) practice in 2016. He is also the founder and chair of the Karnik Institute here in Austin and a nutraceutical company.
He authored many books including Rays of Wisdom, Karnik Dysgraphia Program, and Make Your Child Visually Smart.
