Megan Silker started with Child Neurology Consultants of Austin earlier this year, but she has felt like family to us for more like a lifetime. She is an integral member of our nursing team and supports pediatric neurologist Dr. Kate Labiner in caring for her patients.
Here’s more about Megan, in her own words:
How long have you worked at Child Neurology Consultants of Austin, and what do you like about it?
I have been a nurse for a little over a year, and I’ve been at Child Neurology Consultants for about six months.
My favorite part about my job is the connections I make with the families and kiddos.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work with our amazing providers and the staff here!
What inspired you to go into nursing?
I discovered I wanted to be a nurse later in life and decided to go back to school in 2017. I love taking care of people, serving the community, and being a helper.
Making a connection with patients, and their families, as a nurse is so important because I always want them to feel comfortable with us and trust our plan of care!
What is something interesting you’d like to share about yourself?
I have been married to my amazing husband, Matt, for 14 years and we have four wonderful kids — Jack, 12; Harrison, 9; Ben, 7; and Stella, 5. My interests and hobbies outside of the clinic include drinking coffee, running, weightlifting, and traveling.
In addition to caring full-time for our patients here, and her own busy family, Megan still manages to find time to give back to the community. She is currently dedicated to running 50 miles collectively throughout the month of September in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Proceeds raised from pledges for her running will directly benefit the American Cancer Society. More on Megan’s fundraiser can be found here.
Thank you, Megan, for all the light you shine on us here at Child Neurology Consultants, and beyond!
