Sports-Related Conditions We Treat
We treat a variety of sports-related injuries and conditions, including:
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal and peripheral nerve injuries
- Epilepsy
- Multiple sclerosis
- Migraines
- ADHD
- Other neurologic sports-related injuries
Our community-based approach includes working with local schools, trainers, and athletic programs to ensure students play sports in the safest way possible.
Expedited Concussion Treatment
We understand the importance of prompt care when it comes to concussions. This is why we make every effort possible to schedule patients within 48 hours of them contacting us. If you suspect your child has suffered a concussion, don’t wait to seek help. Contact your primary care provider or call Child Neurology & Consultants of Austin at (512) 494-4000. Concussion Management & ImPACT Testing
ImPACT is the most widely used and most scientifically validated concussion evaluation system. The computer evaluation tests a person’s cognitive (thinking and memory) abilities.
Because this tool works best when baseline levels are available for comparison, student athletes are encouraged to complete the ImPACT before engaging in sports.
Our providers are credentialed ImPACT consultants and pediatric providers. We use ImPACT for baseline and post-injury neuro-assessment. Testing is offered at all three of our locations.
Team Approach
Patients treated in our Sports Neurology Program have access to a network of specialists who specialize in treating young athletes, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, neuropsychology, and related medical professionals.
Our Sports Neurology Program is led by sports neurologist, Dr. Kate Labiner, and supported by board-certified pediatric neurologists, Dr. Michael Reardon and Dr. Lindsay Elton.
What Sets Us Apart
Improving the “brain health” of young athletes goes beyond the walls of our clinics. We regularly partner with local schools and athletic organizations to provide access to baseline ImPACT testing for athletes and to consult on return-to-play protocols. Currently, our providers serve on concussion oversight committees for both Austin and Eanes Independent School Districts.
Our physicians also offer education on concussions and traumatic brain injuries to fire departments, coaches, trainers, school nurses, and other community groups.
